Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Director, assumes leadership accountability and responsibility for shift operations, supervision of patient care, and support of the Mental Health Specialists providing care. In collaboration with the Director, the Manager is responsible for leadership and direction in accordance with the organizational and departmental philosophy and goals. This position will assist the Director in maintaining the highest degree of clinical and operational performance of the service.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Manages Associates and day to day operations for the Snowden at Fredericksburg Case Management Department, Expressive Therapy Department, and Outpatient programs to include: Adult Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient, and medication assisted (OBOT) programs.
- Manages overall operations of the Behavioral Health service line including admission/discharge process, patient experience survey process, and supports goals impacting throughput/efficiency and quality and patient safety.
- Addresses issues related to Behavioral Health patients which may impact other service lines, including patient flow from Mary Washington Hospital (MWH), Stafford Hospital (SH), Lees Hill Emergency Departments.
- Investigates and resolves patient experience issues and regulatory compliance concerns, including operational implementation and oversight of corrective action plans related to the Behavioral Health service line.
- Identifies, monitors, and resolves issues related to the Utilization Management of Behavioral Health services.
- Collaborates with physicians, finance, and managed care to maintain acceptable denial rates, utilization, and length of stay.
- Interfaces with Public Relations and Marketing to design and implement integrated marketing communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives.
- Develops and maintains referral relationships with local and State facilities and collaborates on behavioral health initiatives.
- Maintains a working knowledge of regulatory requirements related to Mental Health/ Substance Abuse services to include: EMTALA, JCAHO, DBHDS, Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS), Human Rights, other local and federal Regulations. Ensures staff compliance and applies knowledge to the overall operations of the behavioral health service line.
- Maintains responsibility for the risk management function and oversees Associates who carry out risk management activities.
- Manages budget planning functions for all responsible areas and controls financials.
- Guides, coaches, and evaluates performance of Associate duties and responsibilities while ensuring professional development needs are identified and supported.
- Recruits, onboards, and develops Associates.
- Ensures performance planning, coaching, and evaluation occurs; develops Associates using performance management system and processes.
- Develops, implements, and monitors compliance of standards of practice for patient care.
- Applies the Performance Improvement process to identify opportunities in clinical practice, departmental operations, policy and procedures, and implementations.
- Provides leadership to and establishes direct and open communication patterns within assigned areas.
- Establishes and maintains professional rapport with the Medical Director, Psychiatrist, and other providers.
- Communicates with clarity and compassion to internal and external customers.
- Coordinates and collaborates with all departments working with Behavioral Health patients to remove barriers to care.
- Facilitates staff meetings for assigned Associates and departments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in a mental health related field such as psychology, social work, counseling or psychiatric nursing.
- A minimum of three (3) years experience in providing behavioral health services including case management, risk assessment, and treatment.
- A minimum of 2 years in a management capacity. Demonstrated leadership experience required.
- Certification/licensure in specialty preferred.
- A working knowledge of reimbursement and managed health care systems required.
- Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communication; as well as computerized systems, required experience with electronic systems and programs.
