Job Summary:The NP or PA provides clinical services for adults and/or children, addressing mental health and intellectual disabilities in an in-patient and/or out-patient setting. The NP or PA is actively involved in providing formal and informal care and education. Participates in the review and development of specific policies, procedures, and practice guidelines. The incumbent in this position must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and an understanding of the interdependent roles of various allied health professions.
The NP or PA will assess physical, psychosocial, cognitive, and functional components, develop a treatment plan, order, and interpret diagnostic components of the plan, and assist in the medication management for the plan.
This position will have on-call responsibilities. In addition, medical services may be provided in either an in-person or virtual capacity depending upon the practice needs.
The NP or PA functions professionally under a practice agreement with the supervising physician and operationally under the Associate Vice President for Practice Operations and/or the Senior Medical Director of the Medical Group or designee.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Conducts comprehensive health assessments and psychiatric evaluations for children, adolescents, and/or adults, to provide ongoing medication management to patients in collaboration with the physician.
- Counsels patients and family members about diagnosis, testing, and risk of procedures in collaboration with the physician.
- Performs approved diagnostic procedures according to set protocols.
- Interacts and communicates effectively with colleagues and referring physician.
- Collaborates with physician to formulate individual plan of care to achieve desired outcome.
- Coordinates, assesses, interprets, communicates, and documents patient and family needs.
- Communicates with health care team to coordinate services and contributes to the continuous performance improvement process.
- Demonstrates the ability to use effective organization and prioritization of problem solving, and decision-making abilities in practice.
- Demonstrates effective communication, customer service, and team building skills.
- Provides emergency treatment and initiates emergency life savings measures per BLS guidelines.
- Collaborates with Senior Leadership on the development of standards of care for patient population.
- Provides direct patient care.
- Participates in on-call coverage.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse licensed to practice in Virginia or eligible.
- Licensed as a Board-Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) in the State of Virginia.
- Master’s degree in nursing, required.
- A minimum of five (5) years’ experience as RN, preferred.
- Nurse Practitioner level experience providing psychiatric care to children and adolescents with a mental health diagnosis, preferred.
- Physician Assistant Virginia License, required
- Experience in Health Assessments, required.
- Knowledge of psychiatric/medical medications/treatments, required.
- AHA BLS Provider CPR, required.
- CPI required within 90 days of hire.
- Knowledge of community mental and public health, principles, procedures, techniques, trends, and literature related to mental health and intellectual disabilities.
