Job Summary:
The Department Supervisor of Patient Transport manages the daily operations of the Patient Transport teams at Mary Washington and Stafford Hospitals, overseeing staff, workflows, and patient movement. This role ensures safe, timely, and efficient transport services while promoting Associate development, service quality, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Supervises daily activities of department Associates to ensure timely, safe, and efficient patient transport operations.
- Implements and monitors departmental workflows and policies, to enhance efficiency and patient experience.
- Creates and manages the department schedule, daily call-off coverage, and real-time shift adjustments to meet staffing and productivity targets.
- Supervises, coaches, and develops Associates through performance evaluations, feedback, and engagement activities.
- Develops and implements transport orientation programs; coordinates continuing education.
- Collaborates with clinical teams to address transport-related issues and support hospital throughput and capacity needs.
- Reviews safety reports, investigates events, implements corrective actions, and escalates significant findings to leadership as appropriate.
- Monitors and evaluates department performance metrics and leads performance improvement initiatives under the direction of leadership.
- Ensures compliance with Joint Commission standards, hospital policies, and safety protocols.
- Oversees transport equipment readiness and collaborates with Clinical Engineering on issues.
- Serves as acting department leader in the absence of the manager.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred.
- Minimum of one year of supervisory or lead experience required.
- Experience in acute care hospital patient transport services preferred.
- Experience with staffing, scheduling, productivity tracking, and quality improvement initiatives preferred.
