Job Summary:

This position is responsible for the transportation, organization, stocking, ordering, and breakdown of packing and shipping materials for supplies to multiple remote locations within the Mary Washington Healthcare Organization. The Delivery Technician & Driver provides customer focused service to ensure effective operational support and teamwork, and contributes to operational safety, efficiency, and expense management in the facilities served. This position requires knowledge and frequent utilization of a variety technical systems and equipment related to the Supply Chain Management Information Systems (SCMIS) which supports the daily supply order cycle, inventory tracking, expiration tracking, and cost performance processes. This position must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to our patients, the public and our co-workers. Normal scheduled working hours for this are evening hours Monday through Friday.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Loads, transports, unloads, and delivers items by hand, on carts, pallets, or hand trucks to customers, clients, and other MWHC locations in a safe and timely manner. Inspects items for damage prior to delivery.
  • Operates all related vehicles and equipment including box truck, transit van, manual pallet jack, and power pallet jack in a safe and effective manner.
  • Abides by all transportation laws and maintains a safe driving record.
  • Conducts daily inspections of vehicles and equipment at the beginning of the work shift.
  • Coordinates repair and maintenance of delivery fleet vehicles.
  • Coordinates and adheres to daily route schedules including pickup and delivery of special request and ad-hoc items throughout the MWHC organization. Prioritizes STAT or urgent deliveries.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of stocked items, inventory levels, usage, expirations, and locations for non-procedural areas. 
  • Maintains supply and inventory areas by utilizing handheld SCMIS based supply reorder process (count, order, transport, put away, and discrepancy resolution as required). 
  • Orders, receives, and stocks non-par/special items as directed. 
  • Provides safe and secure handling and stocking of pharmacologic related supplies. 
  • Facilitates patient safety through effective inventory rotation, expiration management, and handling of product recall items as required. 
  • Maintains a clean and organized supply room to help achieve infection prevention expectations for safety. 
  • Maintains FIFO inventory utilization best practices. 
  • Documents deliveries, item pickups, and item returns using various applications. Reports address and other discrepancies to supervisor. 
  • Communicates regularly with customers and team members to build rapport, maximize efficiency, and address opportunities for improvement. Provides customers with accurate and timely information regarding supply availability. 
  • Works with customers and Supply Chain Leadership, to continuously review needs for supplies and equipment in the facility, adjust par levels and process requisitions as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Must have an acceptable driving record and a valid Virginia State Driver's License.
  • Ability to walk, drive, bend, lift, push or pull (up to 50 lbs) for extended periods, required
  • Must be computer literate with comprehensive understanding of ERP Applications and Microsoft Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, required.
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills, required

Physical Requirements: Frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, sitting, squatting, bending, and use of arms and hands; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills, to include peripheral vision and color determination.

Mental Requirements: Licensed to operate a vehicle; strict adherence to driving laws; ability to multi-task; ability to communicate effectively.

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Risk of exposure to toxic chemicals, such as gasoline; potential exposure to infectious materials to include blood and body fluids; exposure to weather conditions (cold, heat, rain, snow).
