Job Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) is accountable to perform personal care and related duties in patient homes in support of care plans. All duties are to be performed in collaboration with team members. Duties and responsibilities are performed according to standards outlined in the competency based/evaluation tool. The CNA participates in and accepts responsibility for functions delegated to the team. This position must demonstrate a commitment to quality service to our patients, the public and our co-workers.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality patient care in accordance with established care plans in the patient’s home.
  • Uses proper technique and complies with agency policies while rendering patient care.
  • Observes patient status and reports changes appropriately.
  • Prepares documentation of patient care and related duties into electronic medical database system.
  • Participates in 12 hours of CNA in-service training yearly.
  • Maintains acceptable productivity standards for this position.
  • Participates in multidisciplinary team meetings and staff meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required
  • CNA license issued by the Commonwealth of VA required
  • AHA BLS Provider CPR required at hire
  • Valid Driver’s License and must meet MWHC Driver’s Suitability criteria

Required

Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination; ability to work in confined spaces; ability to reach above/overhead.

Mental Requirements: Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills.  Ability to multi-task.  Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team.  Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends. 

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals.  Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.    

*Clinical positions in Mary Washington Home Health and/or Hospice must also meet driving requirements.

Compensation Pay Range:

$18.07 - $23.49
