Job Summary:This position is accountable for providing clinical and technical support for anesthesia providers and operating room staff. Duties and responsibilities are in direct support of the provision of quality anesthesia and surgical services. The Anesthesia Technician will support the mission, values and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and must demonstrate a commitment of quality service to our patients, the public and our co-workers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Decontaminates anesthesia equipment after surgical cases.
- Restocks anesthesia carts and maintains supplies in anesthesia supply room.
- Assists in the positioning and transferring of patients.
- Maintains anesthesia equipment, to include proper cleaning and minor maintenance.
- Assists with procedures and preparation for procedures.
- Assists with operating room set-up and room turnover between cases.
- Attends mandatory education and maintains competencies as directed by the department.
- Follows the guidelines set forth by regulatory and accreditation agencies.
- Maintains all medications and supplies within the expiration date.
- Prepares and assembles necessary equipment, to include transducer lines and equipment necessary for invasive pressure monitoring, as needed.
- Assists in preparation and draping of patients for invasive monitoring/procedures by licensed anesthesia providers.
- Assists licensed anesthesia providers with difficult airway equipment.
- Prepares and assembles necessary equipment for regional blocks and interscalene catheter placement.
- Administers local anesthetics for block and catheter placement under direct supervision of the anesthesia provider.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Physical Requirements: Constant (67-100% of workday) use of arms and hands; frequent (34-66% of workday) standing, walking, and sitting; occasional (0-33% of workday) bending, stooping, and squatting; ability to lift 35 lbs.; ability to push and pull up to 20 lbs.; auditory and visual skills to include color determination.
Mental Requirements: Possesses critical thinking and analytical skills. Ability to multi-task. Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team. Capacity to cope with difficult situations. Ability to tolerate irregular hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.
Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards: Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals. Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
