Mary Washington Healthcare will take your nursing degree to the next level with its New Graduate Residency Program.

Apply to our New Graduate Residency Program* and if selected, you will acquire the real life, hands on experience you need to succeed.

As a new graduate or new acute care nurse, we know how important it is to determine which unit is the best for you. This extensive 12-week rotation program will give you the opportunity to practice in different units to determine which unit is the right fit for you!

Apply to the program that’s best for you – we recruit twice a year.

  • Spring graduates can apply in January for a July start date.
  • Fall graduates can apply in August for a March start date.

If you would like to be considered for this program, here’s what you’ll need to do after completion of our on-line application (see link below). Additionally, submit the following documents in one packet to: Human Resources Dept., 2300 Fall Hill Avenue, Suite 207, Fredericksburg, VA 22401.  Attn: Susan Brooks

  • Submit a resume and cover letter
  • Write and submit a 250-word essay why you want to practice nursing
  • Submit Unofficial Transcripts
  • Submit 2 Clinical Letters of Recommendation (if current Associate, 1 should be from current Manager)
  • GPA 3.0 or higher (cumulative)

If you are selected, you will learn everything they couldn’t put in textbooks like family dynamics, patient dynamics, and psychosocial process – how much more it takes to treat the entire patient. With three months of classroom training and unit orientation you will be exposed to things you wouldn’t necessarily see while you are at school. Instead of looking at each system individually – nervous, hepatic, etc., the in-house teaching staff will integrate it so that it all comes together. While attending the in-house classroom, you will be assigned 3 floors to orient for 2 weeks per floor. If there is something you haven’t seen or a floor you are interested in working on, you will be encouraged to visit with floor managers, shadow the RNs and learn as much as you want. We want you to put in as much time and energy as necessary to be sure you find the right fit.

As medical innovations and technologies continue to advance, so does Mary Washington Healthcare. With two hospitals and free-standing facilities throughout the area, we offer all the benefits of a big city healthcare system while located in the beautiful Virginia countryside.

It is also important to note, that while you do not need your Virginia RN license at the time you submit your application, you will need a valid VA nursing license by the start date of the program to be eligible for this New Grad residency opportunity.
