Job SummaryThe Anesthesia Categorical residency program director at MWHC has authority and accountability for the operations and oversight of the Anesthesia residency program. This includes the overall creation, implementation, daily operations, and accreditation of the residency program. Program Director will oversee resident recruitment and selection, education, supervision, evaluation and assessment, promotion and disciplinary actions, scholarly activity, and ensure an effective learning climate at all teaching sites. The Program Director must comply with ACGME, MWHC and MWMG policies and procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Ensuring compliance with requirements set forth in ACGME Program Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in Anesthesia
- Overseeing and optimizing of residency program
- Management of program coordinator, associate program directors and teaching faculty
- Conducting regular meetings of residency program staff
- Performing annual evaluation of residency program to include faculty and resident evaluation
- Ensuring affiliation agreements for partnering sites as required by ACGME are up to date
- Developing and implementing of written resident curriculum
- Ensuring Resident adherence to educational and clinical practices, policies, procedures at all clinical sites
- Maintaining the highest faculty teaching standards by promoting additional education and scholarly activity
- Supporting Resident wellbeing
- Promoting an inclusive teaching climate supportive of diversity addressing issues of inclusion and equity
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
- Board certified in Anesthesia (MD/DO)
- Current, unrestricted, Virginia State license or eligible for Virginia licensure
- Obtain DEA for full prescriptive ability.
- AHA, BLS and ACLS Required
- Minimum of three (3) years educational and/or administrative experience acceptable by the Review Committee
- Per ACGME requirements, the position requires the expectation to occupy the position as Program Director for a minimum of three (3) years. This is to maintain the integrity and consistency with the residency program.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to engage constructively with a diverse set of stakeholders.
Preferred
- Current or prior experience as an Assistant/Associate Program Director or Program Director in Anesthesia is a plus.
