CNA - Patient Station
This position is accountable to perform patient-related clerical, maintenance, and direct care activities under the supervision of a registered nurse. Responsibilities include observing, monitoring, and assisting patients, as well as organizing, prioritizing, and assigning daily patient transport functions. The CNA remains in the inpatient holding area (the "Patient Station") where he/she ensures a safe, confidential environment for the patients and a smooth, efficient flow of inpatients to/from Radiology. The Patient Station CNA supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of MediCorp Health System and demonstrates a commitment of quality service to our patients and their families, the community, the physicians, and our Associates.
Assists with administrative/support duties, as requested, including but not limited to:
Maintaining an awareness of staff locations/availability at all times.
Coordinating daily staff assignments and breaks based on patient volume/the needs of the department.
Assisting with the orientation, training, evaluation, and competency assessment of the transport staff.
Maintaining the Transport Communications Notebook and staff mailboxes to assure Radiology Assistants are provided pertinent organizational/departmental communications in a timely manner. Notifying the Supervisor when Assistants are not keeping up with required communications/other employment responsibilities.
Performs limited patient care activities under the direction of a nurse, nurse practitioner, physician’s assistant, or physician. Assists, observes, monitors, and ambulates patients as needed.
Obtains vitals as needed.
Performs pulse oximetry/sets up for oxygen therapy as needed.
Suctions patients (orally) as needed.
Performs blood sugar finger sticks as needed.
Practices good hand hygiene and adheres to standard precautions at all times.
Establishes effective work relationships and maintains positive communications with Radiology Staff as well as other customers throughout the hospital. Creates an atmosphere that promotes customer service excellence. Resolves or escalates customer complaints in a timely manner. Employs Radiology’s customer service recovery program when customer service failures occur.
Qualifications:
Certified Nursing Assistant, certified by the Virginia Board of Health Professions.
